5th South Asia – Sichuan Business Promotion Roundtable – Conference was held in Chengdu- People’s Republic of China on 10 – 11 June 2014. The conference focused on “New Opportunities in Infrastructure Construction and Development of South Asian Countries”. CCPIT Sichuan Council and SAARC CCI Secretariat served as Co-Presidents while ACCI played as leader of South Asian countries delegates.

The conference is held yearly where CCPIT Sichuan council and SAARC CCI secretariat serve as co-presidents while South Asian countries take turns assuming the rotational presidency in the alphabetical order of their initial letters. For the year, 2014 the rotational presidency is Afghanistan and ACCI attended the conference as leader.

The conference was organized by the Sichuan Government of the People’s Republic of China and the China council for the promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) along with the SARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI)

In addition to the discussion on “New opportunities in infrastructure construction and development of South Asian Countries” participating delegates of the conference focused on infrastructure projects promotion and match making.

80 delegates including leadership of chambers of commerce of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, SAARC CCI, who are in charge of infrastructure, relevant government officers and Embassy officers and also Chinese delegates around 100 persons including competent Sichuan Companies which are interested in infrastructure of South Asian Countries participated in this conference.

While welcoming the SAARC delegates, the Vice governor of Sichuan province emphasized that improvement of business and investment relationship among the SAARC countries and China can cooperate in development of economy of SAARC Countries. He also recommended that for the upcoming year all SAARC countries will bring business delegation from their respective countries and have presentation on the investment opportunities in their countries so that the private sector can get the required information and invest in those areas.

The Third session of the roundtable conference included the group meeting among all presidents of SAARC member chambers in which they have discussed about the next themes, technical points, specific sectors and other essential matters for the next year conference wherein all the participants were agreed to organize the next year conference under the chairmanship of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries(FBCCI) on June 2015 with the focus on power, infrastructure, SME and technology sectors.
