The recommendation given by the Ministry of Trade was to import “Hilaveli” from other ports of India as well as from U.A.E countries.  In response to this, a member of MNCCI said the price of “Hilaveli” would be cheaper if it was bought in great quantity. However, as there is lack of space in stocking the goods, this cannot be a viable solution. At the end of the meeting, all members agreed that the solution would be if the government arranged a way to stock goods at Thilafushi island.

Another meeting was held between the Ministry of Transport and the “Hilaveli” Committee regarding the same matter. The members of the committee suggested that warehouses can build in some areas of the Provinces instead of Thilafushi island and Male’.

Moreover, the Members requested for a meeting to be held with Male’ Municipality to arrange a way in which landing crafts of private owners could unload the cargo as well. In response, the minister emphasized that with the support of the business community, it would be a very easy task to be performed.

Further, a meeting was also held with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The members proposed for a Maldivian delegation to visit India to meet with the Indian Government officials regarding the “Hilaveli” matter. The Minister supported the idea and agreed that he would participate in the visit to India. He also added that this should be carried out in collaboration with the Indian High Commission.
