Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MNCCI) on Monday appointed a trade representative to its office in China’s Chengdu.
During a ceremony held on Monday, MNCCI member Mohamed Rizwee was appointed as the new trade representative in Chengdu.
Speaking after the ceremony, Rizwee said services needed for Maldivians in China will be provided jointly with a company called ‘Travel Bureau.’
“Under the agreement we will provide information on investment opportunities in Maldives to Chinese investors. We will also assist in obtaining arrangements such as visa for Maldivian businessmen travelling to China. Now obtaining visa from Colombo is a little difficult. So we will facilitate an easier arrangement,” he explained.
MNCCI vice president Ismail Asif was optimistic by the appointment of a trade envoy, which according to him will benefit Maldivian businessmen.
“Many times issues arise in bringing goods from China. But now we want new businesses importing goods from China to inform us in advance. Because then we can check whether the company is legally registered in China, through the trade envoy,” he said.
Following the appointment of the trade representative, MNCCI will commence Chinese language courses very soon, he added.
